Job Overview
Field Engineer – Build Your Career in Commercial Masonry Leadership
Blackrock Masonry Contractors is looking for ambitious, early-career masonry professionals who want more than simply another job laying block.
This position is designed for individuals who already have a foundation in the masonry trade and want the opportunity to develop into future field leaders.
Ideal candidates will have approximately 1–5 years of hands-on masonry experience or have recently completed a masonry-specific technical or trade program.
You will work directly alongside experienced Blackrock Superintendents and Foremen on fast-paced, large-scale commercial masonry projects throughout the Southeast.
This is not a general labor position. We are looking for motivated tradespeople who understand the basics of masonry, want responsibility, are willing to travel, and have aspirations of eventually leading crews and running projects.
Competitive hourly compensation of $24–$30 based on experience, with approximately 15–20 hours of overtime available each week depending on project schedules.
How You Will Make an Impact
Work directly alongside experienced Superintendents and Foremen on major commercial masonry projects.
Assist with jobsite layout, elevations, measurements, blueprint interpretation, and daily field coordination.
Help coordinate manpower, materials, equipment, scaffolding, grout operations, and daily production.
Develop a strong understanding of project sequencing, scheduling, production goals, quality standards, and jobsite logistics.
Assist field leadership with tracking daily production, manpower, deliveries, jobsite conditions, and progress.
Learn to anticipate upcoming manpower, material, equipment, and sequencing needs before they affect production.
Help maintain a safe, organized, and productive jobsite while reinforcing company and OSHA safety standards.
Develop the communication, technical, and leadership skills necessary to eventually direct crews and take ownership of designated scopes of work.
Who We're Looking For
- Approximately 1–5 years of hands-on masonry experience preferred.
- Experience working with CMU, brick, mortar, grout, or other masonry systems.
- Masonry trade school or technical program graduates are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to work extended hours when project schedules demand it.
- Motivated by strong earning potential and overtime opportunities.
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout the Southeast.
- Desire to grow into a Crew Lead, Foreman, and eventually Superintendent role.
- Takes pride in workmanship, productivity, reliability, and personal accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate of a masonry-specific trade school, technical college, NCCER masonry program, or similar vocational program.
- Previous commercial masonry or commercial construction experience.
- Basic ability to read construction drawings and masonry details.
- Basic understanding of layout, elevations, and field measurements.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- Forklift or rough-terrain forklift certification.
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
- Familiarity with Procore or other construction software.
Compensation & Benefits

This position is intentionally designed as a development path. Strong performers will be given increasing responsibility as their technical knowledge, leadership ability, and field experience grow.
Field Engineer: Learn commercial field operations, layout, logistics, manpower coordination, documentation, and production.
Crew Lead: Begin taking responsibility for smaller crews, designated work areas, production goals, and quality control.
Masonry Foreman: Lead production crews, execute layouts, manage daily operations, and coordinate directly with project Superintendents.
Masonry Superintendent: Take ownership of manpower, schedule, logistics, production, safety, quality, and overall field execution on large commercial projects.
